Snows Toyota Supports Rose Road Association with DIY Day

On Thursday 28th April, staff from Snows Toyota Hedge End and Snows Toyota Southampton visited the Rose Road Association in Aldermoor Road to assist with the finishing touches following the refurbishment of their buildings.

The Rose Road Bradbury Centre in Aldermoor Road has been undergoing a huge refurbishment in partnership with the Drew Smith Group, all aiming for the charity to continue to deliver an excellent service to families in the local community and beyond.

Snows Group is proud to support the Rose Road Association, which provides incredible support for children and young people with profound and multiple disabilities, as well as their families. The Bradbury Centre was constructed over a decade ago, and it’s now a facility facing ever-increasing demand. In fact, in the last eighteen months, the centre has gone from supporting approximately 300 families to over 400. It features overnight rooms where disabled children and young people can be cared for, giving their families the opportunity to rest or complete activities they may not otherwise be able to do.

It is a nod to the fantastic work of the team at Rose Road that the Bradbury Centre has been working at maximum capacity, but the charity realised that if they were going to keep providing the valued care that families need, some changes would need to be made. Therefore, they embarked on their Building for a New Future at Rose Road project. This aimed to raise funds for two new bedrooms, one for young adults and one for children, as well as a new changing room and a social space for community groups and individuals to access.

Rose Road Association provides overnight stays for disabled children and young adults, giving them unique learning opportunities and providing their families the opportunity for respite.

Moreover, the project aimed to provide a new sensory room, which has in part been funded by the Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow. The Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow was established in 2012 with the aim of providing grants to charities, schools, and community schemes. So far, it has established environmental gardens in schools, created conservation sites, and encouraged technical education for young people. And now, in 2016, it has funded equipment for the sensory room at The Rose Road Association’s Bradbury Centre.

The team at Snows Toyota has been working hard to ensure that Rose Road gets the funding it needs, from the Brainiest Business in Southampton quiz last year, to Snows staff Steve Barrett and Alex Domone taking part in the London Marathon in April 2016. Now, the new sensory room funded by a Snows Toyota application to the Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow, is designed to give children and young adults a stimulating space in which they can explore their surroundings and learn more about the world around them, all whilst in a fun environment.

The sensory room at Rose Road is filled with expert equipment. This sofa bed emits vibrations which alter according to the music being played, providing a calming experience.

Other facilities at the Bradbury Centre include a hydrotherapy pool, emergency overnight short breaks, day trips, one to one support in the community, Parent Voice (an information and advice service), and many more services which provide invaluable support to children, young people, and their families.

The modernised Centre will have new hoists to enable guests to move around their rooms more freely, as well as providing easier access to bathroom facilities.

The changes are all set to provide an up to date service for an ever expanding clientele.

Clive at the Rose Road Association demonstrates how the new hoists provide a better range of movement for disabled children and young adults, and are able to cross from bedroom to bathroom for ease and comfort.

As part of the renovation, staff at Snows Toyota Hedge End and Snows Toyota Southampton visited Rose Road at Aldermoor Road to help with the finishing touches.

Steve Barrett, Dale Vaughan, Charlotte Saunders, and Hannah Godfrey went along to the Bradbury Centre in Southampton for a DIY session involving putting together some of the new furniture for the site. All left satisfied with their efforts and pleased to have helped towards the refurbishment!
