Innovative and environmentally friendly, the BMW range of Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) models brings the future to the present day. Designed with drivers in mind, these PHEVs use BMW eDrive technology to deliver great performance whilst keeping CO2 emissions to a bare minimum.
BMW eDrive Technology enables the traditional combustion engine and electric motor in your new vehicle to work in harmony. Vehicles with eDrive have three different possible driving modes:
The BMW EfficientDynamics system determines which of the two settings available in AUTO eDrive mode will operate. It monitors your driving speed and battery charging status to work out the most efficient combination of combustion engine and electric motor power.
- Battery charge sufficient: You can drive in purely electric mode, without using any fuel and thus without releasing any local emissions. The combustion engine automatically kicks in when it's needed for higher speeds.
- Battery charge low: Your vehicle can run in electric mode at slower speeds, and with moderate acceleration.
This mode allows maximum electric driving, meaning you can travel miles without using a drop of fuel. When the acceleration potential has been exhausted, the combustion engine automatically assists with an extra power boost.
If the battery charge is low, SAVE BATTERY mode allows it to be charged by the combustion engine. Alternatively, the charging status will be maintained at 50% so that the driver can save battery capacity for purely electric driving.
This technology is currently available in three different models: the 2 Series Active Tourer, the 3 Series Saloon, and the X5. Read the summaries below to discover more.
The 2 Series Active Tourer announces itself as a car of the future with its eDrive logos, situated at the c-pillars and on the door sills, gear knob, driving modes switch, and instrument cluster. There's also an LED light ring on the charging port to make the charging status clear.
Behind the wheel of your new Active Tourer, you'll be able to travel up to 25 miles in electric mode, without using a drop of fuel and without releasing local emissions. As a result of the combination of eDrive and the TwinPower Turbo engine, the automatically regulated xDrive is created, providing an optimised fuel consumption of up to 141.2mpg, whilst CO2 emissions are as low as 46g/km.
The 2 Series PHEV is efficient, better for the environment, and practical. Take a look for yourself by visiting Snows BMW today.
Introducing the BMW 3 Series Saloon as a Plug-In Hybrid Electric vehicle. It's sleek, it's sophisticated, and it's savvy.
Your new 3 Series PHEV can get to 62mph from a standing start in just 6.1 seconds. It has a top speed of 140mph and a combined horsepower of 261hp, yet the BMW eDrive technology within the 3 Series Saloon ensures that combined CO2 emissions are kept as low as 49g/km, whilst it achieves up to 148.7mpg. These figures demonstrate the high performance of the model, which comes in four different model varients: the SE, Sport, Luxury, or M Sport.
The innovative technology doesn't stop with the engine. You will also benefit from Predictive Energy Management, which analyses your journeys using constant data such as speed limits and traffic information. This means that purely electric driving is saved for routes where it will be most beneficial for you.
These advantages come in addition to the great driving experience that you would receive as standard in any 3 Series Saloon. The BMW designers are dedicated to delivering luxury, and the 3 Series PHEV is sure to impress.
This four wheel drive now comes as a Plug-In Hybrid Electric, offering absolute practicality alongside innovative carbon reducing technology. The new X5 PHEV runs for up to 19miles without releasing local emissions, and without using a single drop of fuel. This is achieved by the highly efficient eDrive electric motor, which in other drive modes is joined by a high output BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine for when you need that extra burst of energy.
The X5 delivers optimum traction and agility whilst providing 1720litres of luggage storage, ideal for family holidays or individual fun-seekers. It's also comfortable, with Adaptive Suspension Comfort coming as standard for full stability and excellent driving dynamics, even with a heavy load. This is assisted by the variable shock absorbers and self-regulating suspension, so you can enjoy your drive no matter what you're doing.
Even better, Remote Climate Control ensures that your new BMW will always feel just right. Let your X5 know when you'll be departing, and half an hour beforehand the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems will activate. There's no need to be sweltering in summer and you can make sure you don't have to spend time demisting your windows in winter. The BMW X5 PHEV is a vehicle that you're encouraged to enjoy, right from the start.
Whether you're at home or on the move, it's easy to get power to your BMW.
At home, simply connect to a power socket using the standard charging cable provided; you'll be ready to go in two to four hours. For a faster charging time, use a BMW i Wallbox, separately available. This wall-mounted station increases charging capacity and thus reduces the time your BMW will need to be connected.
If you're out and about you can still charge your BMW, as the ChargeNow mobility service from BMW provides charging points for BMW electric and plug-in hybrid models. Using the navigation system and BMW ConnectedDrive, the BMW Remote app, or the ChargeNow website, you can easily locate charging points, so you never have to worry about running out of power.
What's more, BMW Remote Services offers hybrid-specific functions so that your smartphone (iOS or Android) can display an overview of your consumption and energy values. BMW ConnectedDrive will measure the efficiency of every trip as well as informing you of the battery level and remaining range. The functions ensure that you remain in control no matter where you travel.
