The new Aygo combines low running costs and dynamic driving capabilities for truly exhilarating journeys. Adventure is optional, excitement is guaranteed.
Fuel-frugal, environmentally friendly, agile and practical, the original Aygo was exceedingly popular when it came on the scene in 2005. The second-generation Aygo is likely to be just as well-received among supermini buyers – and it will be available from Snows Toyota in late summer, boasting a bold new look, increased refinement and a greater amount of standard equipment.
Rather than adhere to the standard city car formula, the Aygo's designers chose a charismatic new design for the second-generation car. The front profile, with its "X" design running from the wing mirrors to the grille and back out to the corners of the front bonnet, makes the vehicle one of the most distinctive small cars on the road.
Launching with a host of personalisation options, the new Aygo comes in three and five-door bodystyles, with x, x-play and x-pression trim levels. For a premium touch, choose the x-cite or x-clusiv special editions.
Express yourself with Aygo's vibrant colours – White Flash, Silver Splash, Electro Grey, Deep Blue Buzz and Red Pop. x-cite models also offer Orange Twist, whilst x-clusiv models come in a classic Bold Black.
Buyers, however, can make the appearance of their model even more individual with a range of customisation options, in a way more familiar to the drivers of "premium" superminis than economically-focused city cars. When finished in black, the Aygo's "X" fascia takes on the mischievous appearance of a robber's mask – but it can also be finished in white or silver, along with the nose cone, wing mirror caps, and rear bumper inserts. On the inside, the colour of the interior plastics, dashboard trim, and even the steering wheel can also be modified to your taste.
The new Aygo is slightly longer than its predecessor, although at 3750mm it is still nimble in congested spaces and easy to park. A small increase in dimensions, moreover, gives the car the benefit of increased headroom and legroom for the driver and passengers. Loadspace has also been expanded to 168 litres. Expanded headroom and legroom, as well as a revamped suspension, also ensure comfort for the occupants – even on long journeys. Air conditioning is also standard on all editions of the vehicle, and optional convenience features include an "x-touch" entertainment system with a 7" touchscreen and a rear-view parking camera.
The second-generation model is also largely comprised of high-tensile steel. This has a number of benefits; as well as improving driving dynamics and reducing wind and road noise, it provides even better protection for the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. The occupants of the Aygo are also shielded by six airbags, while active safety measures such as Anti-Lock brakes, Hill Start Assist and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
The Aygo's 1.0 litre, three-cylinder petrol engine provides 69bhp. Short gearing gives drivers sufficient power to bring their speed up to the relevant limit when moving off from junctions or traffic lights. Meanwhile, well-weighted power steering and miniscule turning circle result in excellent manoeuvrability. At the same time, the new Aygo has lost little of the original's thrifty character – combined fuel economy of 68.9mpg is exceptional even for a small car, and the carbon output of 95g/km is low enough to exempt it from Vehicle Excise Duty.
